Agreed that the Rs. 27 crore pay out for a dubbed movie is logic-defying absurdity. But this has nothing to do with the superiority of one industry against another. Rajinikanth is a rare phenomena who enjoys the levels of acceptance that stars dream of but rarely ever achieve. MGR, NTR achieved stardom in their industries, but Rajini has somehow managed to strike a chord with Tamil and Telugu movie goers alike. To put the point in perspective, if a Telugu producer makes a straight Telugu movie with Rajini and dubs it into Tamil he will get double the rate than what was paid by Thota Kanna Rao. Having said that Tollywood has to listen to the alarm bells tolling away. The lack of story tellers and talented scriptwriters will sooner than later take a toll at the box office and today’s stars despite the enormous box office holds that they enjoy simply cannot make a bad movie look good. It must also be said that Tollywood’s attempt to ban dubbing of English movies in Telugu is at best a knee jerk reaction and not a long term solution. Our producers have to entice movie lovers to come to the big screen. To do that banning good English movies is not the solution, making good Telugu movies is!
